How To Capture Screenshots
Here
is an easy step-by-step guide on how to capture a screen
image
You
might want to capture an image from the desktop and then
copy all or part of the image to an application. For example,
you might capture and print an application window and its
content so you can keep notes about using the program's
features. You might want to capture the image of a folder
as a way of keeping track of the files you've saved at a
particular point in time. When you capture a desktop image,
Windows stores it in the Clipboard. From there, you can
copy the image to Paint, WordPad, or any other application
that accepts graphic inserts.
These
steps should help you to capture an image:
1)
Open the Window to Be Captured
Open the window that you want to capture as a desktop image.
You can capture any window on the desktop, regardless of
its content.
2)
Copy the Screen to the Clipboard
Hold down the Alt key and press the Print Screen key (sometimes
labeled as Prt Sc). This action copies an image in the active
window to the Clipboard. The Clipboard Viewer confirms that
the image was successfully captured. You can also open the
Clipboard Viewer program from the System Tools group in
the Accessories menu.
3)
Copy the Image to Paint
Alternatively, copy the captured image to the Paint program.
Start Paint, and press Ctrl+V to copy the image to the drawing
area. You can now use a cutout to select a portion of the
image for use elsewhere. Click the cutout tool, select the
target portion of the image, and press Ctrl+C to copy the
cutout to the Clipboard. However, when you do so, the previous
contents of the Clipboard are lost.
4)
Open the Destination Document
Open the document to which you want to copy the image. Then,
select the location where you want the image to appear.
In this illustration, the document is a WordPad file. Press
Ctrl+V to copy the image to the document.
5)
View the Final Version
The image appears in the document at the location you specified.
