Affiliate Marketing Programme

In its simplistic sense an Affiliate Marketing Programme involves recruiting sales people to market a product or service. You sign-on with your chosen Affiliate Program Company and become their sales person or affiliate. You receive information and means of marketing the products from the company. It is then up to you to generate sales.

Affiliate Marketing creates a simple business relationship in which a MERCHANT (a Web site that accepts payments for goods or services and fills orders) rewards an AFFILIATE (a Web site that promotes the products and services of merchants) when they generate leads and sales. Commission Junction's Network, an independent self-governing body brings merchants and affiliates together for profitable partnerships on the Web.

Here's how it works:
  • Join the Commission Junction Network through an online sign-up process and become a merchant or affiliate.
  • Merchants upload banners and links advertising their site, products and services to the Commission Junction Network. Affiliates in network choose merchants whose products interest their audience and download the links they want for their site, which include banners, text links and product links.
  • Consumers learn about merchants' products through these affiliate Web sites. The merchant links placed in the context of these sites; drive consumers directly to the merchant's site to make a purchase.
  • The affiliate automatically receives a commission, pre-determined by the merchant for sales.

First, to dispel some popular Affiliate Program myths: -

  • You probably won't 'get rich quick' through affiliate marketing programs.
  • You may make a salary, but it could take six months or more, so tread carefully and keep your main job initially if you can.
  • Rewards are related to effort, even in affiliate marketing. So work hard with your affiliate programs and earn more.
  • The people who can make a lot of money are generally those who create the programs, and rarely those who market them.
  • You will need to be creative and generate your own marketing leads. Those who rely on the program owners for leads will probably fail.
