Message from Chairman, IT Committee for ISA members – October 2004
Dear Members,
I am extremely happy with the overwhelming response to the IT Harmony issues. An attempt is being made to identify and present before you the most contemporary and evolving issues happening in and around the country.
I would like to share the following information with you all.
Participants of the CAAT Workshops at Chennai, Mumbai and Faridabad were able to get a hands-on practical experience of CAAT software.
The Network Security Audit Workshop organised at Chennai was also very well appreciated as it provided members an opportunity to see a typical network being checked for security lapses through hacking and counter measures thereof.
We request the Chairmen of Regional Councils/ Branches to inform us of their requirements for workshops on CAAT Tools/ Excel as an Audit Tool/ IS Audit of Banks in their region/ branch.
Most of you would have received the CAAT Resources CD and it is hoped that you have started using the two CAAT tools and the associated White Papers/ Case Studies/ Presentations/ Success Stories etc., as also important material from the Pune Conference. CD’s received back as not in service area or other reasons are being sent again.
We shall be shortly hosting further details of the proposed National IT Conferences at Delhi (November 4-5), Ghaziabad (Dec 18) and Noida (Jan 22-23).
The October issue of IT Harmony dwells in depth on “Business Intelligence” which is an emerging trend in the industry and most of you will benefit from it. Organisations worldover are going through a significant transition and encountering diverse challenges. Hence, they would have to balance the strengths and weaknesses inherent within the organisation as against the opportunities and threats from external sources in order to optimise their profit. BI technology offers enhanced decision making tools such as ERP, CRM, Knowledge Management, Supply Chain Management etc.,. BI enables the organization towards greater profitability.
The featured article in the current IT Harmony highlights the different styles of BI and emphasises the need to adhere to a combination of tools as also the predicaments faced by organisations in adopting to BI technology. Business Intelligence, Data Quality Audit and Tools help determine how the data is converted into information and thereby assist in making quality decisions. The News and Views session throws light on BI and its benefits for the organisations. Tips to Tech accountants as usual highlights the role of auditors in evaluating the BI technology in relation to its cost and ROI. The case studies offer a real time experience of the BI technology.
I am sure you all would enjoy the current issue as much as I have.
Wish you all the very best.
Harinderjit Singh
Chairman, IT Committee
